The former prime minister is pushing for statutory measures that would ban trans women from entering female-only spaces

Former Prime Minister, Liz Truss, is on the brink of shaking up the legal world with a bold proposition. This week, she will place a spotlight on a controversial issue that could potentially alter our understanding of gender as we know it and has dire implications for trans women nationwide.

Truss, in her endeavour, has prepared a private member's bill, geared to be presented for its second reading on the coming Friday. The bill aims at changing the legal definition of sex, insisting on recognizing it as "biological" instead of attributed by the individual's identification.

This legislation, if successful, warrants a significant impact on the roles of those in an official capacity, including educators, when dealing with gender issues. For example, under the new law, claiming that a child is of the opposite sex would be rendered illegal.

Furthermore, the legislation would also address the controversial subject of hormone treatments for those questioning their sex. It proposes a ban on the prescription of such hormones to children, irrespective of them being sought privately or through the National Health Service.

"The law will define sex as biological sex for the first time, eliminating the problematic and hazardous environment where biological males identifying as females can enter female-only spaces such as toilets and compete in female sports. The law aims to construct an environment where biological sex is respected and upheld," explains Truss.
